Žeranovice lies in the foothills of the Hostýn Hills. The village is at the meeting point of Haná, Valašsko and Slovácko. Its first written mention dates from 1297.

The Church of St Lawrence was consecrated in 1900 on the site of an older church mentioned as early as 1322. Žeranovice Chateau stands on the site of a fortress recorded in 1342 and gained its present appearance through a rebuilding carried out by Count Seilern in 1852. The restaurant Zámecká hospůdka operates in the chateau. About one kilometre south-east of the village are the remains of Na hrádku Castle, which had ceased to exist by 1509 at the latest.
